Meet our special needs team

Established by paediatric specialist Dr James Lucas, Lucas Dental Care provides comprehensive treatment tailored to your individual and family needs.

As part of his service within the community, Dr James Lucas realized that many individuals with special needs required specialist care. We are so excited to have a special needs department within our practice.

Special Needs Dental Specialist

Special Needs Dental specialists find solutions for people who have special health care needs that impact on their oral health and their ability to receive routine dental treatment.

Dr Nikki Liew

Dr Nikki Liew is an AHPRA-registered specialist in Special Needs Dentistry (SND) with over 15 years of experience working in public, private and hospital dentistry in rural and metropolitan Victoria. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate training at the University of Melbourne.

Nikki’s practice philosophy is grounded upon person-centred care. She believes that every person deserves good oral health and should be treated with dignity, compassion and respect. In order to provide the best possible care for patients, Nikki ensures that time is taken to understand each patient’s individual needs, preferences, abilities and living circumstances, and to coordinate care with families, support workers, and medical and allied health teams. Outside of work, Nikki enjoys hiking, reading and salsa.
